Tembici's inclusive & adaptive shared bikes

The Tembici bicycle-sharing system offers a fleet of mechanical bicycles and e-bikes, including  cargo bikes and hand bikes that attach to wheelchairs, with these bikes available at sharing stations throughout the city of Bogotá, Colombia.

Service Provided

Tembici’s fleet in Bogotá consists of 1500 mechanical bikes, 1500 electric bikes, 150 handbikes, 150 cargo bikes, and approx. 300 sharing stations. It also works with QR code unlocking, a fast registration and application procedure, as well as a bike repair shop. The service is available 24/7 and for multiple days, if the user decides to pay extra for the additional time.

The intended user of Tembici is those people who do not own a car and want to find more efficient modes of moving in the city than the public transportation. It is also thought for those with a car but wish to change to a more sustainable transportation mode, as well as parents with children that need to transport heavier things through the use of the cargo bikes. Finally, for those people with physical limitations that, with the special hand bikes, which can easily attach to wheelchairs, can gain greater accessibility to city life.

The bikes provided by Tembici are highly accessible, allowing people with wheelchairs to easily ride them by attaching their chairs to the special bike. The service offers 150 cargo bikes for users transporting children, groceries, furniture, or anything up to 100 kilograms in weight. The price to access the bikes are affordable and flexible, allowing users to lease the bikes for up to one week if they desire to do so. 

Service Details

To use the Tembici bike sharing service it is necessary to download the app, create an account or log in, choose a plan and unlock the bike with a QR code. Users must download the Tembici app to use the system, which operates from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. The stations in Bogotá can be found between 127th and 6th streets and between Carrera Séptima, Autopista Norte, NQS and Carrera 10. These are major road arteries in and around the city center, easily accessible to most of the urban population.

Financial Details

Tembici offers a daily, weekly, and single trip payment options (prices in colombian pesos). The single trip option costs, $1.890/ride + $300 per extra minute. The daily option offers unlimited rides for 24 hours and if more was travelled, then +$7.500 per extra hour must be paid. Finally, the weekly option allows users to ride unlimited for a whole week for a price of $29.900. If the weekly time has been surpassed, users must pay $7.500 per hour after returning agreement.
