The solidarity and urban renewal act is a landmark piece of legislation aimed at making building and urban planning regulations more democratic and in line with social and environmental sustainability.
Key Objectives
- All municipalities with over 3500 inhabitants in larger agglomerations have to ensure at least 20% of the housing is social housing
- Implementing mandatory social pricing of public transport tickets, with discounts for seniors, economically disadvantaged groups and people with disabilities (pass solidarité)
- Deprioritizing car use by e.g. reducing parking spaces in areas served by public transport
- Allowing the Syndicate des transports d'Ile-de-France (STIF) to financially support measures outlined in urban travel plans
